Pure Luxury in a Glass

Zandvliet Wine Estate

Say Zandvliet and it’ll echo ‘Shiraz’. Being one of the very first wineries in South Africa to bottle this noble cultivar, this wine estate on the outskirts of the Robertson Valley Wine Route, combines time-honoured tradition with modern-day expertise to produce pure luxury in a glass.

The story of Zandvliet is all about Shiraz and extends back to the first plantings during the 1870’s. Some of the magic is found in the soil, some in the cellar and much of it in the hands of a passionate team.

All of the Zandvliet wines are of the kind we ourselves drink and admire. You’ll find artisan handcrafted and cellar matured wines, so feel free to enjoy them now or savour at a later occasion.

ABOUT US

A small range of low limestone hills on Zandvliet Wine Estate’s southern half brings the special magic to its kalkveld (calcareous earth) terroir. Only 130 kilometres due south is the southernmost point of Africa, Cape Agulhas – a dynamo for the breezes that cool our hills in summer.

HISTORY

Zandvliet was proclaimed as a 5000-hectare farm in 1838. Today, almost 180 years later, ANB Investments is the proud custodian of this magnificent heritage.

TERROIR

The magical key to our success lies locked within the soils of Zandvliet. Known as calcareous Karoo or kalkveld, the red clay underlay, dotted with pockets of chalky limestone is the driving force behind our classical wines. Firm acidity, concentrated flavours and mineral traces are delicately managed from vineyard to cellar.

OUR WINES

The Shiraz vineyards of Zandvliet are planted mainly in the direction of the prevailing winds, on the gentle slopes of the foothills south of the Cogmans River. The clayey soils are limestone-rich contributing salty, mineral characters and elegance to the wine. Zandvliet Estate Shiraz remains one of South Africa’s favourite red table wines, now available in New Zealand.
